This artwork is part of a xylographic print series based on Mauricio Limón’s masks series but attempting to deconstruct them, as indicated by the title “The Inarticulated Gestures”, the paper likewise retains the texture and the delicate ring patterns of the printing press. Against this pale ground, the disembodied features and tell-tale clothing items – effectively identifying the characters they belong to as middle-class and white-collar – appear to be floating in mid air like the discrete parts of a marionette held together by invisible strings.
